These boxes are a twist on a plein air painting tradition that repurposes cigar boxes as a wet panel carrier and a portable pochade box. The paintings are laid down on the exteriors of these boxes which I think creates an interesting decorative object that can be used for storing small items on a desk or shelf. Paintings on paper-wrapped boxes can be easily removed for framing if the collector prefers. Some deluxe boxes have an additional painting on the interior. I recycle cigar boxes that are made of cedar, a substrate used by Renaissance painters like Leonardo Da Vinci. A fellow painter once joked, "the only problem with your boxes is they may only last 900 years." -mike a |
